In Chapter 7 of Jonassen's book, "Modeling with Technology" the author suggests methods to help students learn from their experiences—specifically teaching them to capture and index stories. One approach Jonassen suggests is modeling experiences and stories with hypermedia. The characteristics of hypermedia, according to Jonassen can be defined as hypertext with multiple representation forms such as graphics, sounds and video (192).

WHAT IS DESKSCAN SOFTWARE?
In order to create such multidimensional programs and presentations, high quality images are necessary. Therefore, Jonassen recommends using Deskscan software in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop and scanning hardware in order to digitize images. By using such technology, educators can scan hard copies of images into the computer, allowing users to manipulate the images, see them on the screen, and use them in presentations and projects. By using such software, users are able to enhance their learning process because images provide access to a more dynamic and rich learning experience.

Once an image is scanned into the computer using an HP ScanJet scanner, users are able to highlight, shadow, adjust color and contrast, and sharpen images—making them clearer and brighter.

HOW DO I GET DESKSCAN?
HP Deskscan Software is available upon the purchase of HP ScanJet Scanners.

EASE OF USE AND APPROPRIATE AGE GROUP
Deskscan is not an easy program to use; unfortunately, no written material exists about HP Deskscan software. However, HP scanners are equipped with descriptive users’ manuals, and customer service agreements.

CAN I GET DESKSCAN?
No. Deskscan is only available via HP scanner software.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
HP photo scanners cost between $99 and $199. However, an HP photo scanner with the highest resolution available and advanced software tools can cost up to $499.
